Cute or Ridiculous?

This outfit was inspired these boots and by Melanie from Bag and a Beret's Monday outfit. Melanie always looks so funky and chic. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that this entirely works on me. At work today I kept saying that I knew I looked ridiculous but I was Honey Badger* about it.

Sweater: Danier via Value Village
Necklace and Dress: from Meow
Bloomers: from some store in Paris
Boots: Fluevog Bellevue | DeVere

Grey tights might have been better to give this a solid long line.

I didn't have any meetings today or really any this week, which is rare, so I felt it was ok to take a risk and wear these bloomers. I'm not really sure how to style them. I might end up giving them to my husband for his studio wardrobe.

I bought these boots about a year ago and returned them because I didn't think I'd wear them but I kept thinking about them. Then the black paisley design sold out.

Unfortunately I noticed last week on the website that this colour was restocked. Now they are MINE! MINE! ALL MINE!

* Honey Badger don't care. Honey Badger don't give a shit.

  1. Aww I think this look is adorable! I love how well the necklace goes with the dress, and the bloomers.. Okay, bloomers AND bellevues? Favorite thing ever. I kept seeing those shoes on the Vog site and wasn't won over. I think like most shoes they look incredibly different while on.

  2. I love those boots - every time I see them on the site or in person, I lust for them.

I like the outfit quite a lot - the bloomers are awesome. I have been kicking myself for over a year for a pair of perfectly-fitting Noa Noa white bloomers that I didn't buy. I would wear them under a skirt with a little bit peeking out, or up-style them with some heels and a fitted shirt and vest. Call 'em knickers and go 80s on them.

Heh, I love your honey badger attitude. Have you seen a video of those things? They are badass, man. BADASS.

  3. Great outfit, I think the bloomers with the short dress are a very successful pairing. They might also do well with tall and/or tough boots, no? I imagine a slightly Victorian look with lace-up or button boots, or a pirate-y version with buckled boots. Or even a slightly rider-inspired silhouette with those smooth grey knee-high boots...

  6. Well -- I love the bloomers, but it could be because I just bought a similar, but black, pair on consignment, and fell madly for the "bloomers under short dress" look. (Which I, as a fellow Canadian bureaucrat, also wear to work with a honey badger smile.)

The only thing about this silhouette that doesn't immediately fill me with approval is the cardigan. It's ... too ordinary, somehow, with the rest of the outfit, and not quite the right length, to my eye. I think possibly something shorter and less twin-setty (and possibly black, with this particular combo) would work better.

Otherwise, everything here fills me with yes!

  7. I wish I could say "oh, I got these from some store in Paris"! Ha! You look fabulous! I love the silhouette you have created and I think the black tights added just the right amount of tension - if they had been grey your eye would have been drawn to your dress hem instead of all the way down to those knock-out boots. The bloomers are great here - fun, unique.
