Shadows on your (Port)side

Yesterday I felt uncomfortable and hated my outfit. Today was the opposite of yesterday. I loved this outfit.

Top: Annie 50
Dress: Jonathan Martin (thrifted)
Shoes: Fluevog On Course | Portside

I bought this dress a few years ago to wear to a wedding (yeah yeah it's black but the bride also wore black) and I love it in all its lacy-ness. I decided to put this more casual top over it to make it more work wear. I also needed it for warmth since it's cold and rainy here. Spring in Nova Scotia isn't the best season.

The dress on its own has a 1920s feel with its drop waist and lower cut bodice. I feel all flappery in it.

Except for these shoes which are decidedly modern. I love these Fluevogs so much but I have to admit that I'm so ready for this "platform shoe" trend to end. I'm so over it.

Today was a really busy day full of meetings and a bunch of work that's piled up while I'm testing data queries. I was feeling a little downtrodden but coming home I found I had a package from my West Coast fashion twin, Sheila. Happy days!

Sheila, everything fits and the belt is AWESOME! Thanks!

  1. Oh, WOW, I love this dress so much! It looks amazing on you, and I love that you layered it to make it a fabulous work "skirt."

I don't mind the platform shoes, aside from the hooker-y ones I keep seeing in Aldo.

Spring in Victoria is also very windy and rainy.

Yay, I'm so glad everything fit! Now, I'll be able to find Smoking Lily for you.

I'm glad you like the belt - it just wasn't me.

  2. So cool! That dress is incredible and make a good skirt. I adore how you mix retro with modern in your outfits. Also yay! excited to see your tat so clearly. It's beautiful.

I agree with you, I'm kind of over the mega heels and like Sheila said, stripper platforms. I decided to hang onto my Clinic boots for those times where I get the "craving" for huge platforms, but I'm happy to move back towards flats.

  3. Making this fancy dress part of a "daily" outfit-genius.

    Either way it is beautiful.

  4. I love this - it's really pretty as a dress, but I like what you did to make it a skirt even better!
