On Wednesday I went for a pedicure complements of my friend S who gave me a gift certificate for my birthday way back in May.

Whenever I get a pedicure, I always get my nails painted red. What can I say, I like the classics.

As you can see, my feet are not symmetrical. Everyone has their imperfections. One of mine is that I have a rather large bunion on my right foot. I used to have one on the left foot but when I was 18 I had surgery to remove it.

Both of my grandmothers had them so since bunions are mostly genetic, I have them to thank for this particular irregularity. I also took ballet and jazz dancing lessons off and on when I was a kid, both of which require very form fitting, tight shoes. That may have exacerbated the problem to the point when it was so painful that I couldn't even stand to wear socks. In Canada, one cannot go barefoot very often.

The surgery itself wasn't that bad but the healing was terrible for an 18 year old girl in her last term of high school. (As an aside, in Ontario we used to have Grade 13 so I was actually 19 when I graduated.)

I had a cast on my foot that only covered from the ankle to the toes and I was on crutches for 4-6 weeks. It was a fiberglass cast so I hacked away at the sucker until I had unwrapped about half of it.

I mostly don't let the bunion get in the way of my shoe obsession. I can cram that sucker into just about anything but the shoes I wore yesterday are just now starting to give me difficulty. That makes me sad. I guess I'll have to start paying attention to Barking Dog Shoes' suggestions for bunions. I actually have one pair that Kirsten mentions  - the Fluevog Maholos.

I do have a cute freckle on my foot though.

Today I was wearing my Pucci shoes which gave me no trouble at all.

Scarf: Came with a ball of yarn I bought from Knitivity
Sweater: Club Monaco
Dress: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Leggings: Red Boots Design
Shoes: Pucci from Crimson and Clover (last worn here)
Watch: From the Metropolitan Museum of Art via Value Village

These shoes are so comfortable - I can't believe someone gave them up. My gain though!

I got this dress in Vancouver and I like how the print sort of matches my tattoo.  It also has POCKETS so it really is a perfect dress.

These leggings have a secret - Lucky Cats on the back! They're gold screen print but they look nice with the yellow shoes. Very complementary.

Happy weekend everyone!

  1. Aww, my knees are all busted up from me rollerblading and riding bikes every day as a kid. And subsequently being extremely clumsy. I spent three years taking advantage of my genetically great feet by wearing high heels, but now want to baby my effed up knees. Ah well, it just means hunting more for cute flat/low rise shoes.

Those Pucci shoes were a great find. Neon is fab, and a classic loafer style will always work great. I love the matchy scarf.

    Eee! Secret lucky cats! Adorable.

  2. The match of the print with your tattoo is absolutely wonderful.

  3. Love the lucky cats on your leggings, I agree they match the shoes beautifully. I have foot problems but nothing that needs surgery. You have some wonderful outfits and shoes!

  4. I hear ya! I am busy developing a matching pair of bunions, only started this year. My mum has them, I think there is a strong genetic component, isn't there? They only occasionally hurt, but I guess it's the start of a slippery slope...
Your shoes are delightful, giving that trademark splash of colour as most of your shoe collection does. And those unexpected lucky cats at the back of your leggings are brilliant!
Oh how I would love some Fluevogs, but having looked at the website, I realise the prices are out of my league... C'est la vie. xxxx

  5. I am so glad you wrote about your bunion. I've been thinking about doing a post on aging. Surprisingly, my aging feet bother me more than my aging face :o I've always kinda liked my slim, high arched feet, but since age 46 or so have noticed the left foot has developed a mild bunion. My mom has terrible bunions, so it's not unexpected. But I have to be careful about squeezy shoes - on just one foot :( I joke that I wear 6 1/2 on one foot and 6 3/4 on the other one.

I always love the details on your clothes. The surprise kitties on the back of your leggings are De Bomb!

  6. Your feet are....
    ´*•.¸(´*•.¸ * ¸.•*´)¸.•*´
    ¸.•*´(¸.•*´ * ´*•.¸)´*•.¸

Sorry, I just had to use the new little word graphic I found.
    I love your creative outfits!

  7. Love your smile, and your outfit in this post! We do share matching bunions...mine developed over the past 10 - 15 years and got worse after I took Flamenco dance classes. All that slamming the front of your foot into the ground took its toll. Fortunately, mine doesn't hurt unless it's being squished in a pair of too-tight shoes.

  8. Lol, we are bunion sisters- I also have a little on my right foot and sometimes it does hurt a little. How annoying for shoe loving ladies like us. Hope yours isn't giving you too much trouble...

The detail on the back of the leggings is delicious and unexpected!
