Stepping on the skirt

This skirt is currently languishing at the back of my closet in a time out. By 9am I was ready to just chuck it in the garbage. I'd stepped on it a bunch of times and almost tripped and face planted.

Jacket: Biscuit General Store (last worn here)
T-shirt: Banana Republic (via Value Village)
Skirt: ASOS (last worn here)
Boots: Fly London (last worn here)

But I like the skirt. I like the pattern and the pockets and mostly like the length. I've already had this altered once to make it smaller since it was too big when I ordered it. Now that I've lost some weight it really needs to be altered again but it's not an inexpensive proposition. So I'll have to think about what to do with it.

I thought about getting it shortened but because of the pleats it would probably be as costly as having it taken in.

I wore these boots to try and give me some more height to keep the skirt off the floor. I'm not sure that it worked. Oh well. You can't win them all.

  1. Hike it up and wear it like a dress? Pin a ribbon to it and make it a halter? I'm too klutzy to wear a maxi that fits so I have no advice other than be careful! I do love the colors of this look.

  2. What Megan Mae said. Also, I've been known to roll the waistband of a skirt over a time or two to as Tim Gunn urges, "Make it work." It really is pretty, but if you don't love it, or it might send you to the hospital, maybe it's time to consign it and look for something that's a better fit.

  3. I am a fan of the folded-over-and-safety-pinned-waistband method of skirt taking in & up, lol.

Beauty colour combo, love your boots!

  4. Great outfit overall, but extra-long skirts can drive me nuts. I'll be doing the rolled waistband with my New Year's Eve skirt!

  5. Try and hike it up higher on your waist to raise it a precious inch, it's too lovely a skirt to give up on just yet! The colours and the little pleats are beautiful. Love those tan boots too. I have a few maxis which are extra long, and I look quite the lady as I daintily raise them to climb stairs without tripping. Or quite the idiot, one of the two... Xxxx

  6. I do love the skirt, the colors are lovely! I know how much it stinks to step on it all day though, I have a maxi dress like that. Hopefully you can find a way to make it work!

  7. I might try it as a dress with a belt? It is a lovely skirt, but that's why I don't wear maxis - the chances of tripping or ripping it with the wheels of my chair are just too likely.

  8. I like long skirts but find myself not wearing them because they just get in the way too much! I prefer a length somewhat above my ubiquitous Blundstone boots. Too bad you don't live closer (I'm on the Left Coast) or I'd fix that sucker for you pronto!

  9. Go with Shelia, Amber, and Lynne. Roll and pin. The skirt is gorgeous!
