Mini shoes

No outfit post again today though I did wear something awesome to the hospital today to get my ear tube and my sinus cortisone injection. I'm probably wearing it again tomorrow so I'll hopefully get a photo.

So the terrible news is that Duran Duran cancelled their last 5 stops on their tour, including the 2 I'm supposed to be at this weekend. Nick Rhodes apparently has an illness that is preventing him from performing. I'm totally BUMMED OUT. I've had tickets to see them 4 times and I have only managed to see them once. I'm starting to think that it's me.

Anyway, I took vacation this week specifically to go to the concerts so I'm going to go to Toronto anyway for 2 days. My main goal - BATA SHOE MUSEUM. I've never been. Can you believe it? Crazy! Expect photos galore.

My order from Solestruck came today, sort of. My gold shoes weren't in the box - they sent me a pair of White, Mens, Doc Marten creepers. That is totally the opposite of gold sandals.

First Duran Duran. Second no gold shoes. WHEN WILL THIS CURSE BE LIFTED!?

Ok, I did get these nice shoes in the mail too thanks to a poster on Flickr who offered them to me before she eBayed them.

Post 200

This is my 200th post. I was hoping that I would have a fabulous outfit to post, but I'm off work this week and I'm not getting any photos of outfits. Today it's raining so I'm not sure if I'm leaving the house again today.

However, just wanted to share my amazement at 1) these shoes and 2) how quickly they arrived from ISRAEL.

I ordered these shoes on August 23. They arrived yesterday. 4 days! Stuff from the USA takes weeks.

I've coveted these shoes from Liebling for months. Last week they mentioned a sale on spring shoes so I ordered them. I got an email from Liebling saying that the sale was really only supposed to be at their store in Tel Aviv but they gave me the discount anyway. NICE.

I was totally shocked when they arrived yesterday. When I received the delivery notice I assumed it was the gold shoes from Solestruck since I ordered those from San Fransisco the day before I ordered these. And when I opened the box I was thrilled. ERMAGHERD SHERS!

They have beautiful photography on their site too - something I appreciate since my husband is a photographer.

I would highly recommend ordering from this company. I have not received payment or anything from Liebling for this post - I'm just sharing a positive and happy shoe purchase.

In other shopping news, I went to one of my favourite stores yesterday and found a Jean-Paul Gaultier skirt that I just couldn't pass up.  It should be included in an outfit soon. Here's a sneak preview.

Degas! Ballet!

11th Hour Boots

ERMAGHERD RERD BERTS!

I found these boots at Crimson and Clover (mostly) Consignment Boutique today. They are Fluevog 11th Hour booties. If there's anything I love, it's buttony boots, especially red booties.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: anthropologie (last worn here)
Leggings: H&M
Shoes: Fluevog 11th Hour

This is a little rumpled - oh well.

I spend the day rummaging through Value Village, looking at old weird records, and strange t-shirts. Then I bought a really funky jacket at the Le Chateau Outlet store for $20.00. Then B and I went out for supper with his photo studio partner.

Did I mention the red Fluevog buttony booties?

So far, vacation is pretty good.

Will work for shoes

Today I wore something truly radical and crazy. You won't believe your eyes.

Jeans....

and a....

t-shirt!  *GASP*

ERMAGHERD JERNS!

T-shirt: Le Chateau about 10 years ago for about $5.00
Jeans: Bootlegger
Shoes: Alexander McQueen (last worn here)

Ok, so I wore my funkiest sandals but I'm well and truly proving that I'm on vacation.

This t-shirt is a wee bit snug but I was just going to the hair salon so I thought I could get away with it.

I was wearing a belt earlier so the jeans were  not as low slung as they look here.

Tomorrow I might go back to being my regular, overdressed self. =)

In other news, one of my favourite bloggers, Melanie, honoured me with a Leibster award.

As a reigning awardee I must perform my duties thusly.

Answer Melanie's 11 questions:

1. On a desert island, which would you choose, a pocket knife or a solar-powered e-reader?
Pocket knife. An e-reader can't help you cut and stab things. Plus I prefer regular books.

2. As one of 27 island castaways, what would be your job: hut-builder, chef, caregiver, tailor, banker, other?
Tailor. My friend says that in a Zombie apocalypse my crafting and knitting skills will be in high demand.
3. Would you like some fries with that?
Would I!
4. What's the meaning of life (in ten words or less)?
Live or die trying
5. Zip-lining in a rain forest, deep sea fishing in the Bahamas, or spelunking in Brunei?
Spelunking. Rain forests have to many bugs and I don't really like fishing.
6. What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?
The Exorcist. I ran outside screaming at one point.
7. One night of guilt-free lust, who with: Prince Charles, Steve Buscemi, Mister Ed (a talking palomino horse from a 1960s American sitcom by the same name), Portia de Rossi?
Steve Buscemi. I've <3'ed him forever.
8. What's your favourite flower?
Poppy
9. Do you ever dream that your teeth are falling out?
No, but I often dream about not being able to find a clean or private bathroom.
10. Which is your favourite: mice, spiders or snakes?
Mice. I loves me some furry critters.
11. Which way is north?
Up.

Write 11 facts about myself:

1. I use humour to cover my true feelings. Also, I'm HILAROUS!
2. It takes a lot to embarrass me.
3. I own a very funky bicycle that I've only ridden twice in 3 years. Shameful really.
4. I haven't had a cup of coffee since 1995. I drank a lot of coffee in University and when I got my first job they had terrible coffee. I was spending too much money at Tim Horton's so I switched to tea and never picked up the habit again. I do drink buckets of Coke Zero though.
5. I am an atheist and have never really had any religious inclinations.
6. Rhubarb is one of my favourite foods.
7. If there is nothing on TV I want to watch, I will watch sports (except baseball and basketball)
8. I'm addicted to Hidden Object games and Angry Birds that I play on my iPad.
9. When I go out for breakfast, I order the exact same thing every time. Even if I go two days in a row.
10. If I find money in my husband's pockets when I'm doing laundry, I keep it!
11. I believe if you enjoy spending time on-line then you should do it and not apologize or try to limit your time in the virtual world.

Name 11 Nominees:

1. Colour Makes People
2. Dividing Moments
3. Fashion at Forty

5. For Show
6. Jean of All Trades
7. Kate a la Mode
8. Sartorial Sidelines
9. Smiles Go with Everything
10. Bethie the Boo

Ask the new awardees 11 new questions:

1. Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had it?
2. Do you currently have all your organs?
3. For a pet, would you rather have a crow, a fringed lizard, or a taxidermized wolf?
4. Slips - yes or no?
5. If you could hire one of the following for one year which would you hire? House cleaner, personal chef, massage therapist
6. Fruit pie, cream pie or cheesecake?
7. If you were on Jeopardy and got the Daily Double, would make it a true daily double?
8. Did you ever wear braces? If yes, are your teeth still straight?
9. Favourite decade - 1970s, 1980s, or 2000s?
10. Do you prefer routine or variety?

I wish that I was on that plane

Yay! I'm on holiday! No work until after Labour Day! YAYAYAYA!

I may have gone out tonight to celebrate. Yes it's only 9:15pm and I'm home from celebrating, but I'm feeling pretty toasty. That photo is actually pretty old. I do look rather enthusiastic in it though.

Here's me today.

T-shirt: Joe Fresh
 Belt: who knows?
Skirt: Asos (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Prepares | Scout (last worn here)

I can't tell you how many times I either almost fell off my shoes or stepped on my skirt today. It was a lot of times. Many many times. Luckily I never actually fell on my face or ripped my skirt off. Score one for me!

I'm mostly having a "staycation" so I've planned some pampering. I'm having my hair cut tomorrow and on Monday I'm having a pedicure and getting my eyebrows done. On Wednesday I'm getting a tube put in my right ear. Ok, that last thing isn't really pampering but being 1/2 deaf isn't easy.

Here I am looking at my shoes that almost killed me a few times. These are surprisingly heavy and my legs are surprisingly white.

A few people asked what shoes I bought this week. Here are pictures of them.

 Gold Dot sandals.
Liebling Wing Blue shoes.

Opening eyes impale neon flickers

Every since the Olympic closing ceremonies, I've had this song in my head.

Beep Beep!

And then this song makes me think of the other David Bowie song "Fame" which leads me to think of this:

See, all roads lead to Duran Duran. Good tunes to have running through your head though. Better than Avril Levigne or Nickleback. <---haha!

Sorry, I'm a little obsessed since it will only be a little over a week before I see them. I tend to obsess about things.

Today I broke my tiered/layered clothing trend.

T-shirt: Smart Set
Dress: Plenty by Tracy Reese (bought in NYC)
Shoes: Aldo (last worn here)

I apparently haven't worn this dress on the blog before. I find that hard to believe! Yes, it's a little wrinkly - that's what happens when you sit on your arse all day in front of a computer.

I'm not sure where this necklace came from. I think that B bought it for his studio but it hasn't made it there yet. My gain.

I may have bought two pairs of shoes online this week. *I am so shamed*

ONE MORE DAY OF WORK UNTIL VACATION!!! ERMAGHERD!

Like some new romantic looking for the tv sound

The humidity has broken! YAY!!

As of Friday, I will be off work until after Labour Day. Unfortunately, I have a lot of work to do before Friday but mentally I've already checked out. I hope I can get it together tomorrow. I can be the Queen of Procrastination.

You may notice a trend in my outfits lately. I can confirm that this was not planned. It's just coincidence.

Another grey, tiered/layered dress. I almost didn't wear this because I knew it was very similar to yesterday's dress but I couldn't help it!

Necklace: Pretty Chic
Dress: Flying Tomato (thrifted from Dress in Time)
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers (last worn on Saturday)

I love this dress! For me, this is the perfect summer dress. It's light, it has interesting details, and it's not your run of the mill sun dress.

It's hard to find summer dresses with sleeves too so this was a good find.

Back shot - not overwhelmingly interesting.

I made a hair appointment for Saturday. I have the best hair stylist ever so it's a treat to go to the salon. I think I might be having about an inch cut off so my hair is more Louise Brooks-esque.

I wore my Lily Munster necklace today. Sorry about the glare.

Playing with me like a cat

I enjoyed wearing my layered/tiered dress so much that I wore another one today. It's still warm and annoyingly humid.

Cardigan: Modcloth (last worn here)
Dress: Colleen Eitzen (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Pin Downs | Raquel

These shoes make me feel very tall and this cardigan makes me feel very.... young? Immature? Sweet? Not sure how to describe it but maybe I won't wear it to work again unless it's Friday.

The back is awfully cute though. KITTY!

Speaking of cats, mine have been very lethargic. I'm presuming this is because of the weather? Anyone else have extra lazy cats?

Dress sans cardigan. Flouncy!

Today I booked my flight to Ontario to go to see two Duran Duran concerts at Casino Rama. WHOOOOT!! So excited! These two concerts are the last in their long tour that began last year. I hope they've kept something extra in the tank for their Canadian fans.

She wants to be your bride, are you gonna do it?

Yesterday we went to a wedding of some friends that B knows from photography and from playing D&D. On Friday, I went out and bought two new dresses to wear at the ceremony and the reception. At the last minute, I decided to wear neither because I wanted to wear this new piece of body jewellery that B bought for a steampunk photo shoot.

I saw this a few months ago at the Atlantic Fashion Week's Emerging Designers showcase. It's by a Prince Edward Island designer called Overman.

These photos were taken after the ceremony and before the reception. The ceremony was outside and it was hot and humid so I'm looking quite droopy.

Also, B took this photo and didn't say "smile" so I'm looking like I'm going to smash the camera.

Dress: anthropologie (last worn here)
Vest: Overman
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers (last worn here

I'm amazed at how slimming this dress is. I'm so glad I bought it when I did.

These shoes were perfect for wearing to a wedding. I was comfortable all night and got no blisters.

I didn't do much dancing since the "DJ" played a lot of crap (my opinion which doesn't mean much) and only played 1/2 of Duran Duran's Rio.

I did drink a lot so today has been a bit of a write off. I slept until 1:30 - bliss!

Here's the back of the vest. I have to say this made me feel pretty fabulous. I highly recommend Overman's jewellery.

Apparently I need a haircut too. =)

Paranoia, the only valid point of view

This combination was inspired by this outfit from Amber. I really liked how the layering created blocks of colour.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutiqu
Dress: Soda Fountain Dress from ModCloth
Belt: ?
Skirt: eShakti (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse (last worn here)

If you follow the link to when I last wore the skirt, you'll see that there is a design of shoes above the red band (yes it's red, not orange). This dress covered it up pretty perfectly.

I didn't know my necklace as all askew when I took the photo. Ooops.

Sans cardigan.

I was trying to stand differently but I mostly just succeeded in looking awkward.

I'm taking the day off tomorrow because I'm pretty burnt out and I have some things to deal with including figuring out what to wear to a wedding on Saturday.

More than just color and shape

It has been very humid here in the big city so I've been sticking with lighter, natural fabrics and more voluminous clothing to try and keep cool.

Today it was less hot and humid so I risked wearing 100% man made fibres.

When I bought these shoes at Fluevog in Toronto, I guessed that they would go well with this dress.

Dress: H&M (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Writes | Simone (now on sale)

Not a bad combination.

I have a coworker, originally from Egypt, who sometimes complements my outfits. Today he came to my office and said "Can I tell you that you look lovely in that dress?"  Sweet man. =)

Back view of stripes.

That's all I got! Good night!

Cherry ice cream smile

Last night I was having difficulty sleeping because it was so hot and humid. I also couldn't turn off my brain and for some unknown reason I started thinking about when I was in Junior High in 1983-85 and my home town got an Eaton Centre. A new MALL!

My friends and I went to check out the NEW MALL and do what 13 year olds do, which thankfully I can't remember, and see what fabulous new stores were in the mall that we wouldn't be shopping in because we didn't have any money.

It was then that I discovered my new love - Le Chateau. Le Chateau had such unique and edgy clothing! So different from the clothes I'd been getting at Sears. Specifically I fell in love with a pair of teal, balloony pants with suspenders and a mustard yellow blouse that was HUGE. (It was the 80s - everything was huge.)

I wore the hell out of the pants - in fact my Grade 7 and Grade 8 photos were taken in them. I loved the blouse which I wore with a brooch at the neck and with my yellow eyeshadow - until someone made fun of me. Being 14, of course I let that bother me. And that led to my changing my way of dressing to conform with the masses. The preppy years. Layering a sweater over an oxford shirt over a polo shirt over a turtleneck. Bass Weejuns penny loafers. Pegged jeans.

And that's about when I fell asleep.

The point of this ramble is that it wasn't until recently that I have felt comfortable enough to "be myself" when deciding what to wear. Sounds corny but it's mostly true.

That being said, look! I totally copied Sheila and bought the same skirt as her.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique (last worn here)
Shirt: Smart Set
Belt: Lut Boutique
Skirt: Club Monaco
Shoes: Anna Sui for Hush Puppies (last worn here)

I was at the mall the other night to pick up a package and I found myself making a beeline to Club Monaco where I found this skirt on extreme markdown.

Sheila wore her's so fabulously that I couldn't resist.

I seem to always where these shoes with my polka dot cardigan. They seem like a natural fit.

April showers get out of my way

Today I had the opportunity to get a little more dressed up than I normally would on a Sunday. My friend Karen is getting married next Saturday so there was a little shower for her today. The theme was "tea party".

How'd I do? Tea party-ish?

Dress: Biscuit General store (last worn in my header)
Necklace: gift from my sister
Shoes: Franco Sarto (last worn here)
Lippy: MAC Russian Red

The humidity just won't quit so in order to tame the frizzies in my hair I used a lot of product and a very hot flat iron. It was a struggle.

I also think I'm wearing too much eye make-up but what the heck.

Crinoline! I bought this at Pretty Things Boutique months ago but it's been at B's photo studio where it has appeared in a few photos.

It makes me feel like an extra from Moulin Rouge. Alas, I had no opportunity to "yes you can-can-can" while I was out. It was too hot anyway.

Going to watch the Olympic closing ceremonies now. I hope everyone had a great weekend.

The aphids swarm up in the drifting haze

Another hazy, humid day in the big city today. I have to empty my dehumidifier at least once a day.

My new washing machine was delivered yesterday and at least 5 loads of laundry have been done. Whoooot.

Today has been a low key day. Breakfast at Cora's, a trip to Dartmouth, and grocery shopping. Boring.

Doesn't mean you have to dress boring!

Tank: Winners
Blouse: Dept (last worn here)
Pants: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Prepares | Guide (last worn here)

Humidity is not a friend to my hair. It's all floopy and frizzy.

These shoes always get a lot of second looks and they make me about 5'10". Makes it easier to reach the top shelf at the grocery store.

Is there anything more loathsome than grocery shopping? I hate it. Maybe it would be more fun if I enjoyed cooking.... Maybe.

You can see I included my froggy friend in the photo.

Earlier today I went to H&M to try and find some cheap blouses. I left with this skirt and the striped leggings in the photo.

Not sure why the camera focused on the image of me in the mirror - weird.

I've been trying to find a maxi dress of a similar pattern as this skirt. This will have to do. I think I wear this to one of the Duran Duran concerts later this month.

(I've bunched my blouse up underneath the tank top so it looks weird.)

Oh, I finished knitting something.

It's a tea cosy (duh) with a knit cup and saucer on the top. I knit it for a wedding shower that I'm attending tomorrow.

This is the first knit object that I've finished in MONTHS! The recipient should feel special.

New boots and Duran Duran Appreciation Day

I'm back! I was in Toronto on Wednesday and Thursday and didn't have time to get any outfit shots. It was quite the whirlwind trip which started with a very strange taxi ride from the airport to my hotel. Then I immediately went from my hotel to Fluevog where I bought the boots shown below and a pair of sweet shoes. Then I went to a meeting in the afternoon after which I met a friend on a patio in the terrible heat and proceeded to get a wee bit toasted on Naughty Otter lager. I'm a chatty drunk who wakes up in the middle of the night thinking "What the F*$& did I say!?" If no one is around, I drunk tweet. I guess it can be amusing.

Thursday I went to my meeting, hungover, and got a little annoyed at some of the "policy wonk" made up terms that were being bandied about. Apparently, when I'm hungover I'm mouthy.

I'm glad to be home and today we got our new washing machine delivered. OH BABY!

August 10th is Duran Duran Appreciation Day. Please appreciate them with me.

To show my appreciation, beyond going to see them in concert twice later this month, I wore my new white, strappy, buckley boots.

Dress/Tunic: Dorothy Perkins (last worn here)
Leggings: Joe Fresh
Boots: Fluevog Truth | Petrea

I wore this tunic with these boots at the suggestion of one of my policy colleagues from Ontario who also reads my blog. (HI R d V)

She was right - it totally worked with these boots.

I am totally in love with these boots. Smitten. These boots made me feel funky and confident and, dare I say it, sexy?

These boots would kick your ass if I told them too.

Kick.

Your.

ASS!

Some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on

This weekend was hot, which normally I don't mind, but it was also humid which makes me irritable and cranky. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

It was a long weekend too, like in many other parts of Canada, but the only exciting thing I did was buy a new washing machine. This really is exciting since we've been without one for about 3 weeks now. Our old one does sort of work, it just doesn't spin all the water out of the clothes so it takes almost 2 hours to dry some things in the dryer.

Enough of that thrilling laundry talk!

It's still humid so I just wanted to wear something loose and flowy.

Blouse: Vero Moda (last worn here)
Skirt: RW&Co (last worn here)
Shoes: Chie Mihara (last worn same day as the blouse)
Necklace: Pretty Chic

I'm not overly thrilled with this but it was comfortable enough. I almost had an embarrassing moment when walking upstairs I stepped on the skirt. Whoops.

I wore these shoes in honour of the Curiosity rover's landing on Mars. Space and science RULE!

My necklace also almost looks like planets. Quite a coincidence.

Tomorrow I'm off to Toronto for 1 1/2 days of meetings. I hope to go and visit the Fluevog store while I'm there. Hopefully I'll find something nice in the sale.

Devil with a brown dress on

I'm writing this blog having had a drinky or two so I can't be responsible for what I say or don't say.

Necklace: Fireworks Gallery
Sweater: Club Monaco
Dress: from Lisbon, Portugal
Shoes: Bamboo from Winners (last worn here)

There's a lot more green in this dress than you might first think. That's why I wore the ACID green shoes.

In 2008, B and I went on a trans-Atlantic repositioning cruise with some friends. It was going from Florida to Barcelona and was Über-cheap. We embarked in Florida, stopped in Bermuda and then spend 7 days at sea crossing the Atlantic and then arrived in Lisbon. It was in Lisbon that we were told that one of the stabilizers had broken and the Portuguese port authority wouldn't let the ship leave until it was fixed. Consequently (ooo...big word), all ports of call were cancelled and the ship would just be heading directly to Barcelona once it was fixed.

B and I decided to disembark at that time, leaving our friends behind. We stayed at a great hotel called Pestana Palace and spent 3 days discovering the city.  This dress reminds me of those days.

It has sequins on the top, which you can't see. Sparkly!

Here's what you couldn't see - my new pincushion ring! B bought it for me yesterday at a local store run by our friend Pam, called Put Me On. Don't worry, I only stuck the needles in for demonstration purposes.

I didn't ramble too much...nighty night!

Scissors and Swans and Skulls

PINK! It's PINK!

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Dorothy Perkins
Leggings: Who knows?
Shoes: J. Crew via Value Village
Earrings: from Put Me On
Necklace: from Biscuit General Store

This dress is called "swan print shift dress" but the first thing I saw when I looked at it was the skulls right at the waist.  I also thought it looked a little "Alexander McQueen-esque". It was 30% off and then I got another 10% off for joining the site so it didn't cost very much.

The back of the dress is just plain black. I do wish that the pattern was all the way around.

I do like the little black cap sleeves.

I don't think I could ever wear this as a dress, without tights or leggings, so it's more of a tunic to me.

These shoes are suede J. Crew flats that I got a few years ago at Value Village for $5.99.  On the J. Crew site simlar flats are $150.00. Crazy price! I got a bargain.

Today I was making these earrings look like birds nests and my necklace is scissors that really move. They don't cut anything though. =)

In the early 1990s, when the internet was still in its infancy and text based, I used to participate in Internet Relay Chat (IRC) discussion groups. My nickname was "Scissors". This necklace is my remembrance of times past.

Cream, black, and a modicum of red

I'm never going to understand mail delivery. You may remember my recent issues with Canada Post misplacing my package. Well, a few weeks ago I ordered an Obi belt from Megan from MMD. She lives in Tennessee and hasn't arrived. Yet I ordered a dress from Dorothy Perkins in the UK last week and it arrived today. Things from France also arrive in a week or less. Why oh why do things from the USA take forever?

How's this for crazy pattern mixing? Zoinks!

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique (last worn here)
Shirt: Lilith in France (last worn here)
Skirt: Krista Larsen (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse (last worn here) Currently on SALE!

I've worn this shirt and cardigan combination before but this is the first time I've thought to wear it with this skirt.

Last time I wore this skirt I wore it with crazy shoes, tights and an asymmetrical blouse. Although this mixes three patterns it's pretty subdued when compared to the other outfit.

The modicum of red is on the back of the shoes. I have to wear blister guards on my heels when I wear these shoes. I hope they break in soon.

I like that the back of the shoes forms a diamond and emulates the triangle on the back of the skirt. I didn't realize it did this until I saw this photo. I should take back shots everyday!
