Of Keys and Friends

Day two of being the bossy pants boss at work. Tote that barge! Lift that bale! Ok, I didn't say that. We got cupcakes instead.

Sweater: Danier from Value Village
Blouse: Joe Fresh
Skirt: Chalet from Cha Cha Palace (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Wonder | Ayers (last worn here)

A rather subdued outfit today other than the bulbous skirt.

I can't believe it's been 6 weeks since I wore these shoes. I'd say I should wear them more often, but when you have a lot of shoes, it's hard to repeat them without neglecting the others and that make them sad. Sad shoes are not something you want to encounter.

I like this better without the cardigan but it's necessary in an air conditioned environment.

Today I locked myself out of my house. I had dumped my purse out at work trying to find something and I guess I didn't put my keys back in and when I got home I had no keys.

I tweeted my plight and my friend who lives up the street from me offered to pick me up and give me beer but I thought I should wait for my neighbour to come home so I could get my key from her. Then my friend S. tweeted that she had my key and that she would bring it to me.

I have nice friends. I need to let them know more often how I appreciate them beyond a drunken "I LOVE YOU GUYS".

Red and Turquoise

This weekend was probably the busiest weekend I've had in months. Saturday started with breakfast out and then going downtown to watch the Pride Parade. I took a bunch of photos but they didn't turn out very well. I mostly took picture of dogs anyway. =)

My husband took lots of photos too and since he's a photographer his turned out much better. He did take two photos of me though.

In the second photo the parade is over and I'm trying to find Brent. He found me first.

After the parade, Brent had to work so I wandered around downtown. I made the mistake of going into Kick Ass Shoes, a store that used to carry Fluevog shoes, because I saw a pair of Fluevogs on their sale shelf. Those shoes didn't fit me but the sales clerk mentioned that they still had a pair or two in the backroom. She brought out these.

These are Blind Faith Mid Drew shoes from 2008-ish. I have another pair from this family, the Blind Faith Corey which I last wore on Valentine's Day. These shoes are the shiniest Fluevogs ever.

Here's what I wore with them.

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique (wore a million times)
Dress: Sweet Soul (last worn here)

There's something pretty about red and turquoise together.  My co-worker was quite complementary about this outfit.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and happy Monday.

Box Full O'Honey

Bees!!

Ok, not Oprah giving away bees. Bees on my dress.

Blouse: Club Monaco (last worn here)
Dress: Dress: local designer from Dress Me Up (last worn here)
Belt: from H&M pants
Necklace: gift from China
Shoes: Fluevog Rivers | Yavari

Shiny dress is shiny!

I'm looking longingly at something. It looks like I should have a thought bubble over my head with ice cream, chocolate and Duran Duran in it.

My coworker called this print "Napoleonic". I didn't know that there was a connection between Napoleon and bees but I can see similarity.

Beeeees!!!!!

I knew I had another pair of sandals, I just couldn't find them. I searched my house and finally found them under the bed.

Yay for finding shoes!

Speaking of bees and Duran Duran

Crowds of beautiful colours, indifferent to what you believe

First off, an apology for these photos.  I forgot to readjust my ISO so these are quite grainy.

Jacket: Biscuit General Store
Necklace: Pretty Chic
Dress: from Reykjavik (last worn here)
T-shirt: the Gap
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse

Not much to say about a red dress and a brown jacket. The dress is made out of handwoven fabric and is fairly simple other than the single front pleat.

It's just an A-line dress. Simple simple. And of course I wore my new shoes.

I came home from work today and discovered that my TV was broken and ants were in the kitchen. So I cleaned the kitchen, mopped the floor and tidied my laundry room. My dishwasher and washing machine are also broken so the repair person is coming on Friday. Now they will see how clean those two rooms are.

Look! Crazy outtake. Someone barged into the lunchroom rather suddenly right as my camera took the photo.  This shot reminded me a little bit of Melanie from Bag and a Beret. Go visit her blog since she's fabulous.

Do you happen to have a pair of birds that are... just friendly?

Oh FRABJUS day! Canada Post found my shoes!

In case you had any doubts that Sheila and I were "opposite coast" twins, independent of each other, we both ordered the same shoes from the Fluevog sale.

I bought them in black though.

Canada Post called me today to say that they had finally been delivered to the retail postal outlet - a week after I received the delivery notice.

Someone described these shoes as "business from the front, party from the rear". If it was you, let me know so I can properly credit you.

I may wear these tomorrow.... OK I TOTALLY WILL WEAR THESE TOMORROW!

So what did I wear today?  I know you're dying of curiosity.

I wore my "homage to Hitchcock's The Birds" skirt today.

T-shirt: Joe Fresh
Cardigan: Joe Fresh
Skirt: defunct etsy shop
Shoes: Swedish Hasbeens from endless.com

Whenever I wear this skirt, I'm always surprised by the fact that people either don't see the giant Hitchcock screen print or they see it right away and totally get the reference to the film The Birds. If they are the latter then I know they are good people.

I wore this skirt in NYC in 2008 when I went to see The 39 Steps.

Here's proof!  HAR HAR! I'm oh so clever and I'm so pleased with my cleverness.

It was a very good play too. Only 4 cast members to play all the story's characters and it was pretty hilarious.  Good times, good times.

What is going on with my hair in this photo? It must have been humid as hell in NYC for my hair to resort to this flippy madness.

More shoes. These were my first purchase from endless.com. They only recently started shipping to Canada.

I have to admit that I saw them on Miss Malaprop's blog, discovered that they were on über sale at endless so I bought them despite my shopping ban.

I've never been a fan of the Hasbeens before but I do like these with the ankle strap.

It's time that you were told. I think you're growing old

When I was in university, I remember going to the local mall (Most of all, Stone Road Mall) and shopping in the Marks and Spencer store. I would mostly buy cookies like ginger snaps and the oat and treacle biscuits. At some point, I'm guessing around 1992, I bought this white linen blouse and I've kept it for 20 years. I wash and iron it much more frequently than I wear it. In fact, today is the first time I've worn it for about 5 years. We don't have Marks and Spencer stores in Canada anymore which is a shame since those cookies were darn good.

Blouse: Mark's and Spencer
Skirt: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Shoes: Bamboo via Winners (last worn here)

Both the skirt and the blouse are linen which is a good choice for today as it is another hot one.

I should probably wear this top more often because I received two complements on it while we were out for breakfast.

It was too bright to take my photo on our deck so we're in front of my neighbour's house, under their tree.

I'm not wearing any make-up so I'm not thrilled with how I look but the outfit isn't bad.

Not sure why I chose the green shoes - maybe to give this a pop of colour.

This photo is an outtake. As you can see, although it's hot, we have a nice breeze.

I hope you're all having a good Sunday.

Imperfections

On Wednesday I went for a pedicure complements of my friend S who gave me a gift certificate for my birthday way back in May.

Whenever I get a pedicure, I always get my nails painted red. What can I say, I like the classics.

As you can see, my feet are not symmetrical. Everyone has their imperfections. One of mine is that I have a rather large bunion on my right foot. I used to have one on the left foot but when I was 18 I had surgery to remove it.

Both of my grandmothers had them so since bunions are mostly genetic, I have them to thank for this particular irregularity. I also took ballet and jazz dancing lessons off and on when I was a kid, both of which require very form fitting, tight shoes. That may have exacerbated the problem to the point when it was so painful that I couldn't even stand to wear socks. In Canada, one cannot go barefoot very often.

The surgery itself wasn't that bad but the healing was terrible for an 18 year old girl in her last term of high school. (As an aside, in Ontario we used to have Grade 13 so I was actually 19 when I graduated.)

I had a cast on my foot that only covered from the ankle to the toes and I was on crutches for 4-6 weeks. It was a fiberglass cast so I hacked away at the sucker until I had unwrapped about half of it.

I mostly don't let the bunion get in the way of my shoe obsession. I can cram that sucker into just about anything but the shoes I wore yesterday are just now starting to give me difficulty. That makes me sad. I guess I'll have to start paying attention to Barking Dog Shoes' suggestions for bunions. I actually have one pair that Kirsten mentions  - the Fluevog Maholos.

I do have a cute freckle on my foot though.

Today I was wearing my Pucci shoes which gave me no trouble at all.

Scarf: Came with a ball of yarn I bought from Knitivity
Sweater: Club Monaco
Dress: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Leggings: Red Boots Design
Shoes: Pucci from Crimson and Clover (last worn here)
Watch: From the Metropolitan Museum of Art via Value Village

These shoes are so comfortable - I can't believe someone gave them up. My gain though!

I got this dress in Vancouver and I like how the print sort of matches my tattoo.  It also has POCKETS so it really is a perfect dress.

These leggings have a secret - Lucky Cats on the back! They're gold screen print but they look nice with the yellow shoes. Very complementary.

Happy weekend everyone!

We are given angry hearts but anger's not enough

Still no word from Canada Post on my lost package. BAH! I've entered the forth stage of grief - depression. I emailed Fluevog to tell them that the package was lost sometime after they tried to deliver it to me and maybe if they tried to get their money back Canada Post might be more motivated to find it.

Anyway.....

Necklace: Pretty Chic
Jacket: Joe Fresh
Dress: Pretty Things Boutique (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Wherever | Takk

Beige and red, red and beige. Not much to say here.

Here I'm looking awfully pleased with myself. I guess I like this dress and it makes me happy.

Other things that make me happy? Getting my a hair done on Saturday! YAY!

Here's today's flair. Edgar Allan Poe and a pin that I got at Love, Me Boutique before they closed.

But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door;
Then upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

Wild boys never lose it ...

.... but Canada Post does. Still no package. WHAT. THE. HELL!  I know this is 100% a "first world problem" but it's getting a little ridiculous that Canada Post lost my package sometime after letting me know that the package was going to be available that night. I'm starting to believe that when you call Canada Post customer service to complain they put a flag on your file and work to screw you over even worse. *sigh*

Dear Canada Post:

Ever since you decided to merge letter delivery with package delivery everything has been FUBAR! It takes a big person to admit that they have done something wrong. Here is your opportunity to show us how big you can be by stopping this stupid practice and going back to separating these services again. It will be seen as a sign of intelligence.

No love!
Megan

Not to mention, my Retail Postal Outlet is now in the Mall. So whenever I go to get a package I come out with things that I buy at MAC or Sephora or some other store. Like last night...

...I bought this skirt. But it was 50% off!

Sweater:  Pretty Things Boutique
T-shirt: Banana Republic via Value Village
Belt: Smoking Lily
Skirt: RW and Co.
Shoes: anthropologie

This skirt is nice and flowy and only cost $25.00. Bargain!

I think this cardigan was my best purchase ever. I wear it so often because it's the perfect colour of red, I like the 3/4 sleeves.

Apparently I haven't worn these shoes on the blog before. I think they are cute and strappy and ... red. I might have an issue with red.

After work I walked to my pedicure appointment and these shoes were not the most comfortable for a 30 minute walk.

Post pedicure I had to wear different shoes.

Red shoes! Red toes!

The pedicure was lovely and relaxing. Unfortunately I smudged the polish on one of the nails. I hate it when that happens.

A single random meeting with your eyes

Today I started the day at the ophthalmologist (that's a hard word to spell). I have a pterygium (don't click that link if you're easily grossed out by eye things) growing on my eye so I have to go to the eye doctor every 6 months or so to have it checked and measured to make sure it isn't growing too quickly.

After I left the doctor's office, I was standing outside waiting for a taxi when two young girls about 7 and 5 ran past me. About 10 second later, one of the girls ran back over to me and said "I really like your hair style!" Made my day!

Too bad that happened this morning - I need a little pick-me-up like that now. Canada Post has mislaid my Fluevog order. I WANT MY SHOES!

This is a photo light post because this outfit was nice but relatively uninspired.

Dress: Shabby Apple (last worn here)
Belt: from another dress
Shoes: Desigual (last worn here)

I was in such a hurry this morning that I forgot to accessorize.

Here's to tomorrow being a better day.

Slime Green

Last Friday I ran some errands and eventually found myself at Winners. Someone had told me that Winners had a bunch of good quality support undergarments. Unfortunately, they must have all been sold. So I walked around the store holding these green shoes in my arms trying to decide if I needed a pair of Slime Green shoes for $25.00.

I decided what the hell.

Blouse: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Necklace: Pretty Chic
Belt: H&M
Skirt: ModCloth (last worn here)
Shoes: Bamboo from Winners

My coworker asked me what I called this colour. I said Emerald green. Not sure what other colour this could be described as other than a "jewel tone green". Another coworker said that she likes this top because it just looks like a pretty blouse but then you notice the skeleton ribcage and realize that its got a secret edginess.

Other coworkers debated whether I had worn this blouse before and when I said I had worn it at least 4 times then people said it was time to give it up. Uh... NOPE!

In June I was questioning whether to keep this skirt since it's a wee bit tight. Obviously I decided that I didn't want to give it up and I'm glad of that since Audi of Fashion for Nerds has so perfectly shown its versatility.  These skirts aren't the exact same (I think her's is from Anthropologie) but it's a pretty close match.

I love this outfit of hers the best. I'm going to have to experiment with matching this skirt with different patterns and with longer flowing tops. I'm full of ideas! Thanks Audi!

They have these shoes on the ModCloth website in orange. They don't seem to have the slime green version.

Tent dress

I had the day off today so B and I went out for breakfast and then I dropped him off at his studio. I drove downtown to Crimson and Clover to pick up some money from some shoes that they sold for me and once again I broke my vow to run in and get the money and immediately leave.

 (sorry about the crappy photos)

I found a few things on the $5 rack and then I tried on this dress.  Obviously I bought it.

Dress: Gessica Iezzi from Crimson and Clover
Cami: Envy
Shoes: Tn_29 - gravitypope.com

I Googled this brand but I came up empty other than a website that sells accessories in Italy.

The dress has ties inside so you can tie up sections at the front or back or both.

Today it was over 30C so this was actually the coolest outfit that I could wear. I got a nice breeze when I was outside. =)

I think I need to have the straps adjusted but that shouldn't be a very hard task.

I like the gradient colour from the beige to the brown.

Here it is with all the ties untied. It might even look better after it's ironed.

I also went to Value Village and found a April Cornell duster. Usually I find that brand to be a little too precious but the jacket is pretty funky. It has long sleeves though so I'm not sure when I might actually get a chance to wear it.

ERMHAGERD SKERLS & ARNTZ!!

Today was my Friday so I pulled out all the stops and wore my funnest dress and fabuloustest shoes - together.

Dress: Charlotte Taylor (last worn here)
Shoes: Alexander McQueen

There is an English language school in my building and there are a lot of students there from Saudi Arabia. I usually get weird looks from them but this outfit really confused them. HA!

See, it's purty.

SKERLS!  This picture doesn't really show the proper colour of these shoes. They are quite bright red.  I got these off eBay last year and I love them to bits!

Mary Walker Designs bestowed upon me a Liebster award. The Liebster award is given to upcoming bloggers who have 200 followers or less. The meaning of Liebster in German is sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome.

The rules for the award:
1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves
2. Answer the question the tagger set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you've tagged to answer.
3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs.

Here are my answers to her questions:

1. When are you most alert morning or night?

Morning. I tend to start to tune out around 3pm.

2. What is you favorite food?

I've thought about this for a while and nothing comes immediately to mind. Maybe olives?

3. Do you prefer to be inside or outside?

Inside. That's where the TV is.

4. What color makes you smile?

Red. Definitely red.

5. Do you like your name?

It's ok but no one can pronounce it properly. I pronounce it MEEE-gan. Most other people with my name are MAY-gan or MEG-an. And when I tell people my name sometimes they think I'm saying "ME-kin". WHA?

6. Would you consider yourself as a quiet, calm person or an active person?

 Calm and quiet.

7. Would you rather be by yourself or with lots of other people?

By myself. I'm pretty reclusive.

8. Do you find it hard to answer personal questions?

Nope. Ask me whatever you want.

9. What do you do when you get angry?

I cry!

10. What do you do when you are happy?

Act goofy.

11. Who are you most likely to trust?

My cat Dougal.  *haha*

I'm not going to tag anyone but if you're interested, you can answer the same questions.

These beautiful colours, infinite patterns so hard I see

Trying for something different today with mixing patterns but sticking with a brown/turquoise colour scheme. I also felt a lot more comfortable today - more like myself.

I think I'm having a pretty good hair day today.

Necklace: Fireworks Gallery
Dress: Vera Wang (last worn here)
Pin: Pretty Chic
Belt: All Saints
Skirt: Cranky (local designer)
Shoes: Fluevog Operetta | Fiorenza (last worn here)

The skirt underneath the dress is a delicate tiered design that I didn't think was going to work with the dress but I think it's a pretty good addition.

The necklace and this pin seem to pull it all together. I'd forgotten I had this necklace so I was thrilled to rediscover it in a jewellery box that I don't really use anymore. It was a gift from my husband - he has pretty good taste in gifts.

And of course, Fluevogs.

Thank you everyone for your feedback on yesterday's outfit. The blouse and shoes will be making their way out of my closet. They obviously don't make me happy so I need to unburden myself.

Blasé

Today my coworker said that I didn't look like me because this outfit was too bland. I have to agree with her.

Blouse: some store in San Fransciso
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Camper

I like this blouse but I never know what to wear with it. I think it's time to let it go. It has gold threads in it and I like the ruffly bits on the button bands but overall, this isn't a great blouse.

These are from the Camper Twins line from a few years ago. I haven't worn them in ages so I wore them today to see if I wanted to keep them or consign them. They're cute but I don't really like the square toe and they aren't as comfortable as you might think. Might be time to let them go as well.

I liked my pins today. The "bad kitty" pin looks like my cat Dougal and the guitar playing squirrel is just for fun. And a Megan Mae buttonflower rounds out the flair for today.

What do you think?  Should I keep the shoes? Or the blouse?

It takes true life, to paint your eyes

I didn't have a great start to my day. My water heater clicked off in the night so there was no hot water for my shower this morning. I quickly washed with cold water (brrrrr) but I felt grubby all day. Luckily I had this outfit on to make me feel put together and, well, clean.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Top: Michael Kors (last seen here)
Belt: Value Village
Security Tag: Gift
Skirt: Desigual (last seen here)
Shoes: Aldo

I bought a different pair of shoes from the Aldo website (these ones) which I totally loved but my toes kept "gargoyling" over the ends of the shoes. I can't STAND it when people wear shoes with their toes hanging over the edge - they obviously don't fit if that happens.  That's probably my biggest pet peeve.

Anyway, I returned them to an Aldo store and exchanged them for these which are totally outside of my normal shoe comfort zone. I thought these looked like works of art.

I also thought it would be fun to add a wee bit of neon to my wardrobe.

I wasn't even thinking about this skirt when I bought these shoes. They're a pretty good match.

I made it almost until 4pm before I had to switch these shoes for some flats.

Today's Flair. I went with black and white since everything else was so colourful.

ETA: I'm honoured to have been linked to by Manolo the Shoeblogger! I am pleased to have been recognized by this personage of note!

Breakfast and air drumming

Here's what I wore to breakfast today. We go to Cora's on the weekend and I figure that's as good a reason as any to dress up.

Dress: Desigual from Hautelook.com
Leggings: Mexx (same as I wore yesterday)
Shoes: Fluevog Wherever | Maholo
Purse: Roots Canada

I carry this purse every day. I'm not really a purse person. I find that when I change purses that I invariably forget something in the other purse that I need and it's easier to just stick with one. It doesn't always match with my outfit but I can live with that.

Instagram photo of my dress and shoes.

Yesterday when we went out for dinner, the restaurant played Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf. B. caught me on video demonstrating my air drumming skills. The first frame of this video is pretty priceless. And no, I wasn't drunk.  Oh, and my friends are talking about fish on the menu. My friend tells a joke and it almost looks like I'm giving him a rimshot.
