White Light. Homing in.

Yesterday I did the rounds of some of my favourite stores including Crimson and Clover where I found two fabulous things including this skirt.

Blouse and tank: Dynamite
Skirt: Luna Luz from Crimson and Clover
Boots: Fluevog Truths | Petrea (last worn here)

The skirt has ties underneath it so you can tie it up all funky like. It's quite heavy though.

I bought this lacy top yesterday (and got another one in grey). I was in a shoe store in the mall and one of the sales girls was wearing it. I asked her where she got it and she said the store Dynamite. This store isn't one I usually go into because I think the clothes are a little too young for me. I decided to go and take a look. I'm not scared!

I tried on the grey top and really liked it. When I came out of the change room to look in the big mirror the dressing room attendant said that it looked nice. I said "I don't usually come in this store because I think I'm too old for most of these clothes". She replied "No you're not. what are you, like, 27?" Then I professed my undying love for her.

That's a 100% true story except for the last bit.

It has a zipper down the back.

In these photos I'm talking to my neighbour Wendy. She doesn't even bat an eye when I take photos on my deck. Guess she's used to me.

Probably won't be blogging for a few days. I'm traveling for work and then going home for Thanksgiving.

New dress

This is the new dress I bought when I got the bird blouse.

Necklace: etsy
Dress: Papillon
Shoes: Fluevog Fellowship Tennessee

Funny story. The hose I'm wearing are thigh highs that I got at Victoria's Secret. They stayed up pretty well all day until I got off the bus after work. I was juggling my purse, another bag and my phone when I realized that the left one had come unstuck from my leg and was starting to roll down. I tried to hike it up but it got away from me - down to my ankle. On a main street. During rush hour.

Ever lose your dignity in a public place like that?

Moving on the floor now babe you're a bird of paradise

Yesterday after work I went to a mall downtown to which I don't usually go. I avoid it because there is a very lovely shoe store in it that is very dangerous. Not only that, I went into a store that I don't usually go into because they usually just have boring clothes.

Much to my surprise I found a few really cute things, including this blouse.

Necklace: Fireworks
Blouse: Papillon from Samuel and Co.
Obi belt: Megan Mae
Pants: Smoking Lily (last worn here)
Shoes: Liebling (last worn here)

I buy a lot of dresses so I don't really own a lot of blouses so I forced myself to only look at separates. I found two blouses but I ended up with a dress anyway.

This blouse is silky and soft and the print is little birdies!

See, birdies! Cute little birdies.

So happy tomorrow is Friday! WHOO!

And soldiers coming home like shadows turning red

I'm so glad that it's cool enough again to wear this dress. Looking back at previous wears I notice that I tend to wear it with these tights.

Dress: i Clothing Company (last worn here)
Tights: Sock Dreams
Boots: Fluevog Bellevue | Libby Smith (last worn here)

Funny story. Someone found that blog post by searching for "booty huge pants". That's a very specific search. I'm glad it wasn't "huge booty pants".

Look! I turned around to show you my other hip. I'm a mad woman.

After work today I went to the main shopping street downtown to buy a pair of shoes. When I went into the store the sale person asked me if I was wearing Fluevogs. I said "of course"! Then I was asked from where I was visiting. They didn't believe that I was a local.  That was quite a confidence boost. Not that Haligonians aren't cool, but it made me feel "fashionable". Or something.

This dress is actually a smidge too big now.  Maybe someone will find this post by searching for "booty huge dress".

Take back the life that you wanna lead

My outfit today was inspired by this dress on the Anthropologie website.

My coworker was talking to me while I took these photos and making me laugh.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Elroy (last worn here)
Necklace: Pretty Chic
Shoes: Messeca (last worn here)

Tights! Fall! Tights!

I wouldn't normally wear a dress this short to work but I felt like pushing the envelope a little today. I didn't have any outside meetings so it didn't really matter.

At least I keep my terrible tattoos covered up most of the day.

Yesterday, my last surviving grandparent, my Granny, passed away. She was 97 and had had a stroke about 5 years ago so she's been in a nursing home. If she had understood what was happening to her she would have hated it.

My fondest memories of my Granny are from when I was a young child and we used to go up to my grandparent's cottage. Everyday at 2:00 all of the grand-kids would return to the cottage from our wanderings in the woods, picking wild strawberries, sitting on the dock, or swimming if you were crazy. and Granny would haul out the "two o'clock goodie bag".  We'd all put our hands in and pull out a pack of gum or a chocolate bar or a lollypop. Two o'clock goodie bag was the best!

I'm sad that she's gone but I know she had a good life and was loved by her 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Both of my grandmothers lived into their 90s. Good sign?

Auntie Megan

Today I saw that the weather was going to be cooler, only 15C, so I happily decided to wear tights and boots! WHOOO! Fall is the best time of year for this fashionista.

It's also the best season in Nova Scotia. Nice cool days and nights. The ability to wear layers and boots and coats and all those great clothes.

Look! I cut off the top of my head. Whoops.

Top: Annie 50 (last worn here)
Skirt: Smoking Lily
Boots: Fluevog Heron

On Saturday, my friend who owns a consignment store downtown alerted me on Facebook that she had just received these boots, barely worn, and in their original box. And in my size. Uh, yeah I'll take them.

Funny photo! My neighbour's kids were on their deck while I was taking my photos. My neighbour is from Hong Kong but her kids were born here. They call me "Auntie Megan". Well, the 3 year old calls me "Auntie Morgan" for some reason.

Anyway, I was waving at them and voila! I get a cute photo out of it.

I was still talking to them here. They must think I'm a total weirdo. Well, I am!

Now I remember why I never sit on my deck though. ;)

When the green light starts pulsing

It has been raining for about two days so it feels like living in a rain forest. I may start growing moss soon. I was awake at 3:00am and it started to rain that really heavy rain that falls straight down, almost in sheets. It sounds very amazing.

Jacket: Desigual
T-shirt: no tag. From Value Village
Pants: Smoking Lily (from Sheila)
Shoes: BC Footwear (from Modcloth)

The colour on this photo is way off. The pants are lime green. Closer to this colour. I'm not very good at figuring  out how to adjust them very well.

I thought I had worn this coat on the blog before. I got it in Paris and whenever I wear it people either 1) ask if I made it or 2) chase me down the street to ask where I bought it.

I didn't really need the jacket after all. Even though it was only about 15C, with the humidity it's still quite warm.

These pants are "thai fisherman pants", hence the slightly saggy butt. They are very comfortable and match my new shoes pretty well.

Blue and lime. They fasten with velcro though. That always makes me feel like a little kid. Then again, these shoes do have a "juvenile feel" to them. Cute shoes.

Peter Pan Getaway Boots

In the 1980s, short booties like this were called "peter pan getaway boots". I don't know why other than they look like the boots that Peter Pan would have worn.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Tunic/Dress: Meow (last worn here)
Jeans: Trapper Jane
Socks: bought in Paris I think
Boots: Fluevog 11th Hour (last worn here)

It was pouring rain today so my hair went FWOOM as soon as I walked outside. Even flat ironing it doesn't make a difference.

I haven't been sleeping very well lately. I'm hoping I'll get some tonight and even sleep in tomorrow. How novel!

I'm currently watching last night's Daily Show. When did Bill Clinton become Jimmy Carter? They look like twins now.

Today after work I ran some errands and learned that I've been wearing the wrong bra size my entire
 life. Like completely!

It'll be alright in the end

Today was rainy and only 13C this morning so I gave in and wore TIGHTS and a jacket. Good-bye summer.

Jacket: Lilith (last worn here)
Dress: Trapper Jane (last worn here)
Boots: Fluevog Presence | Intuit

I think I look pretty here, even if I'm staring at the ceiling.

I didn't wear my new shoes today because I had a desire to wear these boots, plus it was rainy and chilly. Forgive me?

Sans jacket. Why don't I wear this dress more often? Because I have Too. Many. Dresses. And too much clothing.

POCKETS!

Amber has these boots too. She's worn them a few times recently reminding me of how awesome they are. I love fall - it means tights and boots and fires in the fireplace. Best time of the year. If you live in a place without seasons, I'm very very sorry.

I'm thinking about getting another tattoo of a bird on my ribcage. I'm uber excited about that. I hope it happens. =)

Butt shot!

More than just color and shape)

Today was a very flustering day at work. I was trying to get a lot of things done but I kept getting distracted and interrupted.

Dress: Heartbreaker from Pretty Things Boutique (last worn here)
Belt: Megan Mae Obi Belt
Shoes: Aldo  (last worn here)

Overall though, it was a rather pleasurable and pleasant day other than when I went outside and the wind blew my skirt up making me flash a group of international students who were outside smoking. Ooops.

I was able to wear these shoes all day - for about 9 hours. Surprising for such pointy heels.

Quick post today because I have to go pick up a friend and go out for dinner.

Oh! I got new shoes in the mail today. Of course I will probably wear them tomorrow.

The dancers spinning in the mirror ball

There was almost no blog today but I am so dedicated to you, my loyal readers, that I went above and beyond to make it happen!

I got home from work, changed, fed the cats, put in a load of laundry (this rock and roll lifestyle is going to kill me) and grabbed my camera so I could process my photos.

No memory card.

Memory card was sitting on the coffee table.

My computer won't talk to my camera.

CONUNDRUM!

So I got redressed so I could take new photos.  Don't say I never did nothin' for y'all!

Dress: Dress in Time - it's not really vintage, probably from the 1990s
Belt: Le Chateau
Slip: ?
Shoes: Fluevog Bellevues | DeVere
(last worn here)

I debated these boots for a while this morning. Do they go, are they too much but decided I wanted to wear them so I didn't care if they went or not.

The back isn't much different from the front but here it is. Butt shot!

I was looking at my neighbour's yard because they have a sunflower in their garden that's about 12 feet tall. Pretty gorgeous!

A Diamond in the Mind

True fact. I haven't been able to wear this dress in 5 years. I tried it on this morning on a whim and it fit! I've held onto for so long hoping it would fit again because it's a fabulous vintage dress. I found it in a store that unfortunately no longer exists.

Dress: Vintage (from Junk and Foibles now closed)
Necklace: Pretty Chic
Hosiery: Sock Dreams
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik (last worn here)

This got a lot of positive attention from people at work and on the street. One guy pointed at my legs and gave me two thumbs up. People are very friendly here in Nova Scotia.

Vertical stripes are cool.

And of course I had to keep the ink covered so I just wore this Joe Fresh cardigan that I wear all the time.

There's something crazy about wearing a $14 cardigan with Manolos.  These shoes are very "witchy".

I'll be posting this at Patti's Visible Monday.

If you got treasure, I'll pay you for the pleasure

True confession. I've only been wearing this for about a half an hour. I started the day wearing something completely different - and way to dressy for a Sunday.  I'm going out for dinner so I thought I'd casual it up a bit.

Sweater: Betsey Johnson  (last worn here)
T-shirt: ?
Skirt: Desigual (last worn here)
Leggings: ?
Shoes: Steve Madden (last worn here)

I last wore this sweater on Hallowe'en? I've probably worn it since then but it didn't make it to the blog.

From the front, it just looks like a cropped black cardigan...

....and then I turn around and it's totally ribcage-alicious. I guess that's why I don't wear it to work. Skulls are ok work attire (in my mind) but not other parts of a skeleton. That's probably crazy.

My blog went over 51000 views today. Thanks everyone for visiting.

Yesterday someone sent me a message saying that it looked like I had lost weight and asking if I was ok. I have and I am. I don't know how much I've lost since I never weigh myself but I'm fine. I'm eating! Promise.

Oh, and another update. I didn't bring home any more animals yesterday. All the shelter cats were under quarantine so I couldn't even go in and snuggle them. =(

Dance into the fire

I think I've mentioned before that took ballet lessons when I was a kid. I started at one dance studio and when I got older I switched to a school that was more ballet focused. The instructor was kind of mean though and we suffered some humiliation and abuse from her. She was probably dishing out what she was given when she was a dancer. I ended up quitting because of it but the whole dancer aesthetic is still very appealing to me.

Maybe that's why I liked this skirt when I bought it. I've had it over over a year and this is the first time I've worn it - maybe because it's too "dancer" and not "bureaucrat", not that that's really stopped me before.

T-shirt: Club Monaco (last worn here)
Skirt: Twig and Hottie in Vancouver
Shoes: Vivienne Westwood for Melissa (last worn here)

This is a little more make-up than I would usually wear on a Saturday morning and I wish I could say I'm going to a party or something all WHOOOOO! but I'm not. In fact I had no plans until about 15 minutes ago when my neighbours asked if I wanted to go to the animal shelter with them this afternoon.  It's the shelter where the dear departed Jetta came from so I'm concerned I'll come home with another furry friend.

What, isn't this outfit appropriate for a few hours of playing with kitties and doggies? Who cares! It makes me feel pretty.

The back is my favourite part of this shirt. Probably because my back is my favourite part of me.

I'm dealing with an unplanned shoe "capsule" right now so you're going to see a lot of reruns until I get my shoes back.

I tried to sleep last night but I’ve caught your dreaming

I hesitate to post this photo because it's not great but I took about 15 shots and this is the best of the bunch. I look tired and that's because I am a bit. I didn't sleep very well last night and ended up getting up at my normal early time even though I had the day off. And then I ran around meeting with friends and having some very interesting conversations. It was a lovely day but I'm tired.

Nothing new here. These tights are becoming my go to item of choice.

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
T-shirt: Lilith in Paris
Skirt: ?
Tights: H&M
Shoes: Messeca (from Capezio in Toronto)

Hopefully I'll get some sleep and look less droopy-eyed the rest of the weekend.

Here's a song to start your weekend.

But the leopard in you... silently... preyed on me

This morning I had a big time super duper important meeting. Maybe this wasn't the most "professional" thing I could have worn but since I don't own a power suit, I thought this would suffice.

Ooops, cut off my feet. There was someone in the room behind me and I kept thinking they were going to come out the door.

I look like the cat that ate the canary, don't I?

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Daniela Besso
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impel (worn a lot recently)

II like how the hem of the dress is slightly higher in the front. I was also wearing a scarf earlier but I took it off because it was annoying.

Slightly less smug looking.

I have tomorrow off work. No real plans other than I'm going downtown to have lunch with my coworker.

I'm currently watching the movie Underworld: Awakening. It's "free" On Demand. It's pretty terrible but visually quite pretty. Lots of pretty, pretty people.

Layers and stripes and mixing patterns

Today's title doesn't refer to my outfit but to the Spring 2013 designs of Thom Browne. When I saw photos of his collection from NY Fashion Week I was thrilled by its awesomeness. It has a very Tim Burtonesque/Edward Scissorhands feel to it with the striped tights and the black and white.  I was also reminded of Melanie from Bag and a Beret because she is a master of layering and pattern mixing.

Here are some of my favourite Thom Browne looks

Photos: IMAXTree (from The Fashionist)

Maybe not entirely "ready to wear" but I love it all just the same.

Today I wore something that didn't entirely match but who cares?

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique (it's purple)
Jumpsuit: Lilith (last worn here not as successfully)
Obi Belt: Megan Mae Daily
Shoes: Fluevog Mini | Gorgeous

My coworker who dubbed me "The Flash" yesterday didn't like these shoes. No accounting for taste.

B-side, solid gold

I decided to not stay away to long since this blog and being part of the "outfit blogger" community makes me happy.

My Gold Shoes of Awesomeness finally arrived and though the weather has been cooling off quickly here, today was warm enough to wear them.

The shoes are a wee bit big but after the previous mix-up I wasn't going to bother returning them. They're fine.

My coworker started calling me The Flash when he saw these and then played this song.

Look at me wearing "white" after Labour Day.

Shirt: Joe Fresh
Belt: All Saints
Skirt: Club Monaco (last worn here)
Shoes: Gold Dot from Solestruck

Today's bling. Last week I got a package from Sheila and it included this fabulous ring. I love it!

The bracelet was a gift from a coworker and the necklace I got on Etsy.

Black....and a break

This is the final pair of shoes that I bought in Toronto.

Skull shoes from Steve Madden.

I just noticed that the one on the left looks meaner.

Sweater: Pretty Things Boutique (last worn here)
Dress: Elroy
Leggings: Mexx
Shoes: Steve Madden

Sadly, Pretty Things closed on Thursday. I'm sad that such a great independent store is gone but I understand why the owner did it.

I'm probably taking a bit of a break from the blog to deal with some personal things. I appreciate all my virtual friends so much but sometimes real life just sucks and you have to deal. I'll be back.

Gaultier does Degas

I got home from work, feeling a little stressed, and was happy to have a package from Sheila with the fabulous lime green pants, a very cool ring, and a comic book made by her friend. Thanks S! Perfect timing. You're awesome!

Here's the skirt that I gave a sneak peek to earlier last week.

Jacket: Lilith
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Skirt: Jean-Paul Gaultier (thrifted)
Shoes: Messeca (from Capezio in Toronto)

Business on top, party on the bottom!

I love Lilith's clothing and I got this jacket on eBay for $51.00. That's an insane price. And I thrifted this skirt!  Who could possibly have given it up?

The skirt is so pretty - ballet dancers! I used to take ballet lessons and had dreams of trying out for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet but that was never going to become reality.

I finally saw a ballet, La Sylphide, in Washington DC in 2009 and it was amazing. Brought tears to my eyes because it was so beautiful.

Here's the back so you can see stripes going in different directions.

I bought these shoes in Toronto last weekend from Capezio. They are a brand that I'd never heard of before but I was drawn to the pointy toe, straps, velvet fabric and the unique piece on the heel.

Today my coworker said that these were less extravagant than my usual shoes. I think they are pretty funky myself.

Pointy!
