Placeholder post

I didn't plan to be gone this long but a few things have happened to keep me from the blog.

  1. My father had surgery here in Toronto at the end of September, was sent home after a week, and ended up back in here with complications.
  2. My mother is sharing my tiny apartment with me and my cat so between getting up early to go to the hospital before work and then going to the hospital after work and having dinner before going to sleep (me on the couch, mom in my bed), there's not much time for anything else.
  3. My divorce papers were filed in September and approved yesterday with a final divorce date of Nov 10. This makes me happy yet introspective.
Hopefully my father will be released from the hospital early to mid-next week so I can get back to my solitary life.

Here's some instagram photos to tide you over.

Shoes: Fluevog Rivers (last worn here)
Tights: No Brand - from a crazy store on Queen St called Original.
They remind me of William Morris wallpaper

Shoes: Devastee (last worn here)
Jeans: All Saints

A guy stopped me at Starbucks and asked to "take a clip" of my shoes. Wonder if they showed up in someone's crazy shoe fetish Vine video.

Shoes: Zara (last worn here)
Tights: Emilio Cavallini from Peek Brooklyn

Shoes: Fluevog Fortitude | Luther in Metalic
Tights: Jonathan Aston from Peek Brooklyn

I stalked the Queen Street Fluevog store waiting for these to come in. Then they gave me a blister on the top of my foot just under my big toe. I forgive them though.
Alas these tights bit the dust after this wearing. Might have to replace them.

Robin Hood! (AKA Fuzzy Buddy, Little One, Mr. Hood)

I must correct my earlier statement about RH's health. He is NOT feline leukemia positive. He is positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV+). As long as he stays otherwise healthy, he will have a long happy life. As long as he has wet food.

A new path on the horizon?

Hello! I just spent two days in bed with the ICK. With CONTAGION. With PLAGUE!

Ok, it was just a cold but when you're alone and no one is around to wait on you hand and foot it can be overwhelming. I seem to be improving by the hour though.

So I have no outfit posts for Wednesday or Thursday but here's what I wore on Tuesday, September 10.

Necklace: Pretty Chic
Dress: thrifted, no tags (last worn here)
Tights: Leg Avenue from Fashion Crimes
Shoes: Zara

I saw these shoes on the Atlantic-Pacific blog and thought I had to get them. So I ordered them from the Zara website. After ordering them I realized that I already own two pairs of pointy toed strappy shoes. I guess it's a style I like.

These tights lasted one wearing. What a shame since I love the vertical stripes. Such a bummer.

Besides being sick I've been dealing with a number of personal issues including the filing of my divorce papers. It's been a long, hard year of changes. Here's hoping I'll find my new path soon.

How Megan got her groove back

Fall. The most wonderful time of the year. Boots and tights! Tights and boots! Summer was just atrocious this year. Too hot and too humid for my liking so I'm over the moon to finally have cooler temperatures. One big reason why is I finally got to wear the boots featured in the post that I bought in July.

I had a visitor this weekend - my friend S from Halifax! We did Toronto Broadway style. Or we would have if I didn't like to be in bed by 9pm. We went to the Art Gallery and the pottery museum and did some shopping in Yorkville. That's where I bought this dress.

Dress: Benetton
Tights: who knows
Boots: Fluevog Libby Smith (swoon)

Yes, I have these boots in grey and green but these are SO SHINY! And the buttons are BLUE! Heather at the Queen St store set a pair aside for me when they came in. Isn't that sweet? (and possibly kinda expensive.)

So I got this dress at Benetton. It comes in about 6 colours but I went with plain grey. When I was in high school my friends and I used to drive to the mall in Kitchener to go to Benetton. It was the bomb and I couldn't really afford much there. Everyone in high school had their rugby shirt and it was the style to bleach everything - even $100 brand new shirts.

I probably should have bought this in another colour too.

Look at my shiny boots! So shiny!

In other news, I found these uber vintage Fluevog boots at a store in my neighbourhood. Alas they were a size 6 so too small for me. I showed the picture to Kaley, who works in the Fluevog store and she went and bought them for herself on the weekend. Lucky ducky!

I would have killed for these boots in the 80s. I bet Amber had a pair.

I'm taking a ride with my best friend

Some more catching up and hopefully I'll be back on track next week with the regular blogging.

First though I want to post a video of Martin Gore from Depeche Mode. He sang this song last Sunday at the concert and usually I'm not a fan of his songs (they're so sad and mushy) but he stole the show with this song.

I've kind of been watching this video obsessively. Depeche Mode should really consider releasing this as a single.

I wore this way back on August 22.

Dress: Lilikoi from Chartreuse Style (last worn here)
Shoes:  Fluevog Half Truths | Tanya (last worn here)

Black dress, black shoes, black cami underneath.

*smoldering stare*

This ends a long line of black, black, black.

August 28 - BOOM! COLOUR!

Jacket: Vintage. Gift from my coworker!
Dress: Meg (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Integrity | Amie in Neon Orange

I had to give a presentation at a workshop so I went for something peppy.  I began my presentation with "ARE YOU READY TO WORKSHOP???????"

I'm not sure if they were ready for that.

Today I'm actually wearing a similar amount of colour.

Happy Friday everyone.

Gromit, these are the wrong trousers!

A few weeks ago I wore pants to work. Two days in a row. And one of those days, I wore JEANS! I really confused my coworkers.

On August 15, I wore these pants with my kitten heels.

T-shirt: No idea
Vest: Liliblue (last worn here)
Pants: Joe Fresh
Shoes:  Fluevog Half Truths | Tanya

I realized after I got to work that the pants aren't white but very much off-white so the t-shirt didn't really match well, but I wanted to be able to show the lacy back of the vest. I think it's quite pretty.

Then the next day I wore JEANS! This was August 16.

Jacket: Vintage
T-shirt: Duran Duran Concert T from 1984 found on etsy
Jeans: Not sure the brand
Shoes: Fluevog Integrity | Amie in Neon Orange

I got a lot of complements on this jacket. Probably because it's the coolest jacket ever!

These jeans do nothing for my butt. In unrelated news, after work this day I took the subway to Yorkdale mall so I could go to the All Saints store where I bought some.... jeans! I also bought a dress which I finally wore yesterday. I should have it up on the blog shortly.

Duran Duran BABY!

End of Summer

Yes I know, technically summer doesn't end for another 3 weeks but after Labour Day it starts to feel like "back to school" and fall. I'm looking forward to wearing tights and boots again. Right now I'm wearing as little as possible and my hair is in pigtails. Humidity is of the devil.

(I actually started this post on Saturday. It's no longer really humid. In fact it's quite cool today.)

Last week was very busy at work so I didn't get many pictures but I have a bunch from earlier this month.

This is from August 14.

Necklace: The Bay
Dress: Gap bought at Meow (last worn here)
Shoes: J. Crew (last worn here)

This necklace is all one piece but is pretty light because it's just made of plastic.

I haven't been around the blog world much but I'm hoping to come out of the other side of this funk I'm in soon. Work isn't overwhelming anymore like it was in August when I was covering my coworker's files while she was on holiday, and we're almost back to a full complement of staff again.

In other news, I have adopted a cat named Robin Hood. He's about 6 years old and tested positive for Feline Leukemia so his life expectancy isn't long but he reminded me of my dear departed Jetta.

He just arrived yesterday and one of the first things he did was to pee on my floor. He's home alone now so I'm a little worried about what mayhem I'll return to.

OH! I went to see Depeche Mode on Sunday night with my sister. We had great seats - not close enough to get sweated on but the band was very visible without having to watch them on the big screens. I took this video because they had great graphics and images behind them. Particularly this one. (which may or may not show up....)

A blog first!

A first on the blog today. I'm wearing the same shoes that I wore yesterday. GASP!  I KNOW! It's unprecedented.

Vest: Liliblue (bought at Millennium in Guelph)
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Skirt: Noa Noa
Shoes: Fluevog Half Truths | Tanya

Apparently it is also the first time I've worn this skirt on the blog. I've had it for a few years so I find that strange. I just looked through my flickr photos too see if it appears there but I apparently doesn't. Hunh.

It's pretty flouncy and I like the way it goes with my kitten heels.

My lace vest doesn't show up at all in these photos. I'll have to wear it again when I'm wearing a lighter coloured shirt.

Whoops! Outtake!

On Monday, White Lies, my second favourite band (after Duran Duran, of course) released their third album. Apparently only in the UK since my iTunes says it won't be out until August 20th. Not sure why in this day and age of digital music that we continue to have separate release dates. It's maddening!

Here's the video of their first song off the album, There Goes Our Love Again.

Hidilly ho neighbourino

S'up yo?! How's it goin? once again I'm tardy! Let's do this!

August 8

Dress: Thrifted (last worn here)
Booties: Fluevog Bellevues | Ida Clark (last worn here)

I wasn't entirely sure about this shoe choice but they were quite popular at work so I guess they were ok.

This dress is really more of a winter dress since it has velvety fabric but I've kind of been in a black mood.

July 9

On Friday I went a little casual. More casual than I usually do.

Top and skirt: Melissa Bolduc from Fresh Collective (last worn here)
Shoes: Hush Puppies

Maybe I should have worn the stripey booties with this?

I had been wearing my bronze Fluevogs but I changed into these just before I remembered to take my picture. Whoops.

August 12

And today was another blackish day.

Dress: americanretro (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Half Truths | Tanya

New shoooooes! On Friday I stopped at Fluevog on my way home intending to just pet the new velvety boots (the blue, so gorgeous) and of course I ended up trying on a few pairs. Surprisingly, I loved these the most.

I've said this before but I'm a sucker for straps and buckles.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I liked these so much. They are my dream shoe from the 1980s that I never would have been allowed to have. Pointy toe? check. Straps? check. Buckles? check. Gothy? check check.

I'm not usually a kitten heel fan but these are delightful!

and boom! New post. I'm outta here.

Meow!

Howdie internets. How's it going? I had a nice weekend away and now I'm back into the old routine. Work, dinner, sleep, repeat. I did have one little glitch along the way. About 3 years ago, when I went off the birth control pill, I finally learned the reality that is P....M....S. I had a little crying episode and melt down Monday night. Then as quickly as it came on, it disappeared. Gotta say, it's pretty horrible!

Despite that, I enjoy being a girl...

I enjoy being a girl because I like wearing pretty things.

August 6

Dress: eShakti (last worn here)
Shoes: Irregular Choice (from trashydiva.com)

Here's my new hair, sans red. It's been 6 years since I had it put in. And the two times I had red put in here in Toronto it just faded to pink. So until I find a place who can do it properly I'll just stick with one colour.

Unfortunately this is BLACK, not dark brown. *sigh*

This weekend I went to see a production of The Mikado. I've seen it a bunch of times and can practically sing along. Anyway, the actress who played Katisha was Jean Stilwell who is a Canadian opera singer. Right now her hair is very similar to mine.

The next day, I went to another concert and a woman approached me and said "You sang beautifully last night". HAHAHAHHA! Totally awesome.

You know what else is awesome?

Kitty cat shoes!!! MEOW!!  Sometimes Irregular Choice shoes can be over the top but I couldn't resist these.

And I couldn't resist this dress on Modcloth.

August 7

With my love of red, you'd think I've had a gazillion red dresses but I really only have 1 and it's wool.

Dress: Folter from Modcloth
Shoes: Miss L Fire (last worn here)

It's a very comfortable dress but again, my stupid long waist means that the waist of the dress sits at the bottom of my ribs. Not totally annoying though.

Hangs pretty well, no?

The "piece de resistance" was really this bracelet, also from Modcloth.

Spooky! I wore my skull earrings too.

I'm watching the movie Brave right now...see you tomorrow.

Omnibus post

Another week, another catch up post. I thought when I got my couch I'd be all over the blogging again but I've just turned into a potato instead. So here I am doing an "omnibus post" again. And it's a long weekend for us so I'll be away until next Tuesday. I can't believe it's August already!

July 26

I think my face says it all. This outfit was boring. I was wearing a belt earlier but I had a roti for lunch which made me all "bloaty" so I took it off.

Dress: thrifted
Shoes: Fluevog Truth | Pilgrim (last worn here)

Yeah, pretty underwhelming. I might put this dress in my donate pile. That would help free up some space in my closet.

July 29
On Monday I wore my bat dress. Ok, it's not really a bat dress but I think the embroidery at the bottom looks like flying bats.

Dress: Free People (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Hopefuls | Assured (last worn here)

See, it even has wings on the sides. Like bats!

Tuesday's outfit wasn't photo worthy so lets move on to Wednesday, July 31.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Judy Tampa (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Bellevues | Laura Evans (last worn here)

This outfit made me happy. Black dress and leggings, purple cardigan, shoes with pink buckles.

*wink*

Yesterday I had my coloured and cut. The red is gone. It's been 7 years so it was time.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Another week is winding down. For the last week I've been craving spaghetti and meatballs so tonight guess what I had for supper? Om nom nom.

Here's the outfits from the last 3 days. I can't believe July is almost over.

July 23

Dress: Meg (last worn July 3)
Shoes: Fluevog Hopefuls | Assured (on sale!)

Yup, this is still my favourite dress. Bright colour, nice cut, pockets...what's not to love?

I may have accidentally bought these shoes last week. I was walking to the drug store and the next thing I knew, I was leaving the Fluevog store with a bag.

My favourite thing about them are the blue soles. You can't really see them here but take my word for it, they're blue.

The buckles tend to jingle when I walk. I pretend I'm a cowboy and they are my spurs.

July 24

I bought this dress in Guelph last weekend.

Dress: Desigual
Belt: Rudsak
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impel

The skirt has a shiney red design on it which you can't see but I thought my shiney bronze shoes would look good with it.

I bought these shoes on my birthday. I've worn them a few times but I guess this is the first time on the blog.

I really like the skirt part of this dress but the top is kinda boring.

I kept futzing around with the belt all day. So annoying!

Whoops! My tag has come up for air!

July 25

The weather has been cooler this week so I broke out the man made fabrics.

Dress: H&M (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Miracles | Medugorje

I bought this dress for $10.00 and it was very popular with my coworkers. Someone called it "spectacular". That was kinda nice.

It is pretty awesome. I guess that's why I've hung onto it even though I haven't worn it for almost a year. That's kinda crazy.

Tomorrow night I'm going out with a friend. Tonight I'm tackling my ironing basket. Good night everyone!
